General Club Information:

History:

The NU Triathlon Club was formed in 2006 with five members at the original meeting.  Two years later, the club has upwards of 60 members and continues to grow.  The NU Triathlon Club prides itself on forming an enjoyable, healthy atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff of all abilities and experience.  We welcome everyone who is interested, including many members who are new to the sport of triathlon or who simply participate to stay in shape.  We have three great coaches that offer instruction to both the beginner and advanced athlete in all three sports - swimming, biking, and running.  With our coaches' help, our team has improved its performance at local and national races each year.  Most notably, we placed in the top-25 of a 60 team field at the 2008 Collegiate Nationals race.  With this finish, we were the most improved team from 2 years ago!  In addition, we had several top male and female finishers in the overall and age-group categories and many members who completed their first triathlon at the Tower Triathlon in Niles, IL.

Practice schedule, competition schedule (or major yearly highlights):

We have three certified coaches (two in triathlon, one in swimming) who guide us through 4 optional workouts a week and who provide training plans indicating workouts for the rest of the days.  The club subsidizes one race a year for each member.  Beginners participate in a local sprint triathlon at the end of May while more advanced members participate in Collegiate Nationals in mid-April.  We also compete over the summer in the Midwest Collegiate Triathlon Conference (MWCTC) circuit where we placed 3rd out of 24 teams last season.

League affiliation:

Midwest Collegiate Triathlon Conference (MWCTC)

Club dues (per quarter or per year):

How often you compete or travel:

We travel and compete in triathlons during the late spring (April and May) and summer (June through September).  We also travel to local road races throughout the Chicagoland area during the entire school year.
