General Club Information:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a combat sport that focuses primarily on ground fighting. The U.S. Army bases its combatives on BJJ, professional Mixed-Martial Arts fighters function in the ring without a fundamental understanding of BJJ, and it is frequently cited as one of the most effective fighting systems to date.
At practices, we emphasize practicing takedowns, positioning, transitions, escapes, and submissions, eventually utilizing them in live drilling and live grappeling situations. Ultimately, we are oriented towards competition, such as NAGA (North American Grappeling Association) among other smaller tournaments. However, many of our members do not compete, and simply enjoy learning something cool and getting a good workout.

Tryouts: New members are welcome throughout the quarter regardless of ability level. In fact, our teachers will frequently take you aside to give you some personal help on your ground game or takedowns.

Practice Location: Blomquist Gym, Saturday: 2-4PM. Weekday classes and live grappling practices tentative for 2009-10 academic year

Dues: $1.00 per quarter (financial aid is available).
